RHODODENDRON FOREST TRAIL

Duration: 1h30

Distance: 3.6-2.2km

Elevation: 193-130m

Difficulty: easy

The meeting point - the ski rental chalet to choose the most beautiful and comfortable snowshoes.

Then go up the stairs to the station road and choose one of the two departure points.

Turning immediately to the right and walking a few hundred meters, you find yourself on a forest track where beautiful panoramas are revealed: plunging view towards Rieutort and its meadows, distant view on the lake of Puyvalador, the Massif du Madres and the Pic de la Pelade.

After having contemplated the landscapes, continue the path in the forest marked in yellow to fall back on the concrete road of the station. Above the bend, in front of chalet №23, you will find the path on the right, indicated by the sign, and marked in yellow. The real "Rhododendron Trail", the second starting point, starts here.

You immediately enter the forest. Soon you will find a fork: choose to go up on the right (you will come back on the left). The path alternates forest undergrowth, some clearings, and rare passages in the middle of granite rocks. After the last climb in the middle of the pine tree, seeming to have suffered from an old storm, some views open.

The path ends at the “Pla del Bosc forest road” at an altitude of 1,890m. It is the highest point with a magnificent little body of water with crystal clear waters, the tour of which offers some distant panoramas over Capcir and towards Cerdanya.

At the end of the lake, on the east side, a sign suggests a return to Rieutort: "Riutort - 3.4 km - PR31". Just follow this direction and never leave the most obvious path. In the clearing, follow the right path downhill. A clear passage, in the balcony, allows admiring the valley of Capcir and the border chain on the horizon. Lower down, you will find the outward fork, continue straight will return to the chalets of Puyvalador.
